Integration of disaster risk reduction (DRR) into education in 124 schools in Earthquake affected communities in Muzaffarabad District of AJK

Project Purpose:
The purpose of incorporating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities in education is to put into place a method to systematically analyze and manage the causes and implications of disasters, including: avoiding hazards, reducing vulnerability of children and their families and communities to hazards, and improving preparedness for adverse events.

Key Activities
  • Training teachers, line departments, MoE education and SDMA officials and on DRR and emergency preparedness;
  • Development of school safety plans in all 124 targeted schools;
  • Promoting community involvement in DRR and emergency preparedness and formation and strengthening of DMCs in DRR.
  • Climate Change Adaptation activity through one child on tree.
  • Provision of tool kits to DMCs
  • Development Community Based Disaster Preparedness Plans (CBDPP)
  • Incorporating child participation in emergency preparedness activities;



 

Sustainable Livelihood & Community Empowerment

Location:District Battagram (KPK)
Project Purpose:
The main aim of the project is to improve the livelihoods of the targeted community by exploring local sustainable solutions. Direct beneficiaries: are poor and vulnerable families headed by women, families caring for orphans, families with children engaged in child labour (other forms of exploitation) and families with chronically ill persons. Indirect Beneficiaries: are local community, government departments of agriculture, livestock, forestry, social welfare , industries, traders and teachers in district Battagram.

Key Activities
  • Develop market linkages for 1500 local producers
  • Transfer of innovative technologies to 30 communities through extension services
  • Establish 20 SMEs
  • Training of 20 SMEs
  • Training of income generating activities (IGAs) to 1500 women and vulnerable head of families
  • Provide tools to 1500 participants of IGAs trainings
  • Trainings of 260 CBOs and VCs
  • Registration of 26 CBOs with social welfare department

Project Purpose:
The purpose of incorporating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities in education is to put into place a method to systematically analyze and manage the causes and implications of disasters, including: avoiding hazards, reducing vulnerability of children and their families and communities to hazards, and improving preparedness for adverse events.

Vocational Training Program “Waseela-e-Rozgar”

Funding Source: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP)
Location:District Haripur, Mansehra & Battagram (KPK)
Project Purpose:
The program aims to provide opportunities for short-term skill development to semi-literate and educated unemployed BISP beneficiaries, youth in Pakistan for period verifying between four months to six months. The unemployed BISP beneficiaries youth are offered various skill development opportunities and job oriented certification courses to cater to local and international job market. This helps contain poverty and improve the socio-economic conditions of common man and create new jobs.

Key Activities
  • To develop human resources in Pakistan catering to the needs of public and private sector in local and international markets.
  • To provide stipend to various categories of un-employed educated young BISP beneficiaries as a measure to address poverty during training.
  • To provide quality trainings and certification per year to un-employed semi-literate and educated youth through the public and private sector to increase their employability.
  • To provide trained manpower linkage to the local and international job market and encourage self-employment.
